CPR, Movement and Monitoring During Transport

A significant EMR distinction from other certifications is the preparation for patient movement, transportation and continuity of care. The EMR course includes transportation, reaching, lifting, extrication, ongoing care and patient assessment as part of EMR training.

Pharmacology and Treatment Awareness

EFR responders generally have more limited training in medication-related decision-making. EMR includes greater pharmacology content, including medication indications, contraindications and medication-assisted interventions as authorised by legislation and medical direction.

Resource Limited and Large-scale Incidents

Firefighters may be required to care for patients for significant periods before EMS arrival, particularly during high system demand, remote or rural responses, severe weather, simultaneous calls or major incidents. EMR training better supports these realities by adding multiple casualty incident training, triage principles, patient prioritisation, reassessment and extended patient management.
